.Programs

CAAGRI uses genealogy as a vehicle of interest to accomplish goals that better serve the needs of the African American community while preserving history at the same time. Our programs are administered at our corporate office as well a our Technical Learning Centers.

DADD® (Defense Against Digital Divide) - A computer training program that will teach the knowledge and skills to at risk youth, high school drop outs, single parents under skilled and underemployed adults and seniors who lack adequate computer skills and educational resources to secure and maintain skilled jobs with which to support themselves and their families. In addition to this, all eligible youth participants who complete a 14 week research assignment will earn a free computer.

SOLT® (Save Our Legacies Today) - A mentoring program for at risk youth or those youth already processed through the juvenile system to volunteer to help with research as a condition of probation or in lieu of suspension from school.

GEMS® (Get Every Mother's Story) - Pairing young people with our seniors to document and record their family's history for future generations to enjoy.

RITES of Passage®- Instructional classroom and hands on courses for young people between the ages of 5-8, 9-12, 13-18 and all interested adults. These courses will focus on African American history in the US and Liberia , self-determination, self-respect and love for all mankind.

Give It Back®- A growing volunteer program that focuses on identifying, preserving and maintaining slave cemeteries, African American cemeteries, historical buildings, churches, etc. as well as assist other like-minded non-profits in similar efforts.

Volunteerism

Because there are no membership dues or subscription fees to access the information either online or at The Center, we need volunteers to do lookups in their communities for other genealogists. Each registered user will be assigned a Unique ID and password. Each user will be required to volunteer to do lookups based upon geographic location. For example, if a researcher in Chicago needs a lookup in Atlanta and we have registered users in the Atlanta area, we expect the researchers in Atlanta to be able to help the researcher in Chicago and vice versa. It's that simple.

We need your help! Please register to volunteer to help a fellow genealogist, to mentor a young person, to assist in identifying a historical location, to teach a computer training class or to transcribe data at The Center. What ever you can do to help, whatever you can do to *Give It Back is all that we ask.
